On Oct 11, I left for Mumbai! (It seems just like yesterday..) I was probably one of those people who was cribbing about staying at Mumbai. My heart knew why.. I was missing home and above all college
(I was waiting for Nov 13, the day I d get back home)
But, Mumbai did gimme a lot of things to smile abt. First of all warmth of my cousin n fly, with lil nephew and neice around, I cudnt ve asked for more.. A bhabhi who was more a frend than bhabhi, was my agony aunt there. Never was there a dull moment with her at home.
HDFC Ltd. was the place where I was supposed to do my internship! The name did send shivers down my spine. (I managed to a decent job I guess
) First day was boring to say the least. My boss was curt and dint expect anything from me.. no ppt.. no report.. That me turned me down. I was looking fwd to doing something exciting and fruitful. But, the conversation upset me! I thought probably another WIPRO experience in the offing. Little did I expect wat was ahead of me
Slowly, but steadily work started pouring in. I was happy doing them. Then came the twist. My boss was talking abt some “Andrew”. This was the time when “Prince Andrew” was in Mumbai. I happened to relate the two and asked him if he was referring to “Prince Andrew” – The Duke of york! He burst out laughing. He said, “Yeah, in a way this is also a PRINCE”.
A week down the line I got to know that the Andrew that they were referring to “Andrew of BankAm” (He heads the Treasury Division there). The dealing room team at HDFC is a team of 3 and all v v mischievous. They wanted me to ring up that Andrew n refer to him as “Prince”. Well, I had to do it! (Career at stake) What followed was laughter! This thing continued for over a week. Suddenly, one of the dealing room members asked me, “Why don u do a survey? Ring up all the banks and ask them questions abt their operations”. It sounded exciting and I embarked upon this task.
What followed was a good interaction with a lot of reps from JPM, a tete-a-tete with AVP of Deutsche Bank, BankAm(with Andrew, ofcourse), HSBC, Stanchart etc.. etc.. etc..
Moral: Even prank calls can provide some learnin!! (hmmm..)
Well, I also visited alot of landmarks at Mumbai! The Gateway of India, the good old Taj, NAriman Pt, marine Drive…………… Even got an opportunity 2 c the Oz cricketers on their way to the hotel (But this dumb author dint even click a pic.. chodo.. mera number aayega)
Come Nov 13!! How happy was I! BAck home !!
All sain n done, Chennaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii rocks!
