Friends then moved on, some for greener pastures, some contributing to brain drain. Telephone meant huge holes in dad’s pocket. But but but, in came an angel into our lives! An angel called INTERNET and with it email. I still remember mailing a dear friend on hearing the WTC attack. Her long reply recounting her experiences in the aftermath of the attack is still fresh! EMAILING and FORWARDING all of a sudden started ruling our social lives!  Long lines, high word counts led to deep yawns until CHAT took over, followed by VOICE CHAT.

Look at what’s happened now! I click on my friends profile to learn what he or she is upto. An uncle “posts” a message to inform me about trip down under. A friend changes her relationship status thus announcing the entry or acceptance of a companion! Ahhhhh, and how can I forget the 140 character system? From # of friends in your network, you now want to be followed

If you have been regular at my blog, you would have noticed the change in theme; if this is your first time, then a warm welcome.

This time of the year is the most crucial in many a student life – annual exams, board exams, b-school interviews, placement interviews (both under grad and post grad) and what nots! And, in India its not the student alone that’s a bundle of nerves; its the whole family.  I still remember the day, when my uncles, aunts, grand parents, cousins, my mom’s colleagues, my dad’s friends called me up to wish me good luck for a math exam. More than the wishes I remember hearing the standard phrases ” Are you well prepared”, “Dont take any tension”, ” Revise 3-4 times”, “Write neatly” etc etc etc, and with a teacher at home (and by the way, I have graduated and hold a masters degree, however mom still goes to school ), I was bound to hear them over and over again!

The biggest convenience of a mom and child going to the same school lies in the commute from home to school and I used to love the morning walks from home to school the day I had an exam because it gave me precious few minutes to revise, recollect and recite (I was a Sanskrit student at school and sanskrit meant lotsa and lots of poems). My mom had to go through harrowing experience of hearning them whether she understood or not.

I think of this every march and I am sure there at least a thousand Chinis out there going through similar emotions. My best wishes to all kids and hope they all sail through this period successfully!

First about the movie. Venkat Prabhu is back on the silver screen with his favourite team and the genre that he is most comfortable with – comedy. The movie does make the viewer laugh, but lotsa dialogues lifted from other movies – some his own, some very popular! Premji makes you clap with his antics and has definitely delivered a stand out performance. Rest of them disappoint Sneha – what is she doing in this team? She seems to have lost oodles and does look ravishing. However, she and glam – jam nahin raha!

Dostana impact is evident and songs are OKAY. Somehow the team has failed to recreate the Chennai 28 magic!

Upshot: Decent

Now on to the experience. It was like watching a movie at Chennai Lotsa comments, claps and screams! Loved it.. Missed the warmth and a huge gang though Miss u Chennai

It all ended with one call.. and since that it has been blissful.. I was asked to “work from home” with a lot of stress on home all for a change.

And suddenly the morbid atmosphere had changed and I am back to my cheerful self!

Over the last one year, people have asked me one question – What does a Business Analyst do at Infosys. (so now you know the reason behind this post) Here is what I have been exposed to -

A business analyst is seen as a domain expert or a subject matter expert – different from the league of coders/ testers at Infosys. This means, you are expected to do a lot of domain trainings. I have done many in the past and tell you what – the experience has been good. As a trainer you need to do your homework properly and be up-to-date in your chosen domain.

Presales is another stream. As a presales anchor at Offshore – you should be able to handle Client Visits and lend Proposal support. This involves market research/ deck preparation. A deck is a suite of inputs – Value proposition of services, staffing plan, costing etc. As a presales anchor at onsite (or locations abroad), you can be projected as a BDM, and you literally get to acquire clients.

Apart from this, one can be into Delivery. In delivery, you would be expected to carry out user acceptance testing, suggest improvements to the project has been managed and services have been offered to clients. Also, one has to review test cases, even do testing (depends on your luck – manual/automation/performance are the possibilities)

Requirements gathering is yet another path that a BA gets to traverse. A requirements analyst – engineers requirements, gathers and documents them. You get to due-diligence of clients’ applications and interface with them to understand their requirements better.

These are some of the streams that I am able to think of Will add more as and when I recollect..Hope this is useful!!!
